Windows 11 is currently present at a rate of 4 to 1 among Windows users.

Microsoft does not provide official figures on the popularity of Windows 11, so the only way to know the number of people using its latest operating system is through analytical services from external sources.

According to a report from Statcounter in July 2023, Windows 11 currently accounts for approximately 23.68% of all Windows users.

Similar to Google Chrome in the browser market, Windows 10 remains the undisputed market leader with a massive share of 71.1% (+0.01 point). At the beginning of the year, when Microsoft retired Windows 7, Windows 10 gained a strong user base, solidifying its dominant position. However, as Windows 10 nears the end of its lifecycle and new devices perform better on Windows 11, the eight-year-old operating system is slowly losing consumers to Windows 11.

Nevertheless, Windows 11's growth is not as fast as Microsoft would like. According to Statcounter, after reaching the 23% mark in April 2023, Windows 11 has stalled somewhat, with a market share of 23.68% (-0.25 point).

As for Windows 7, the third most common version of Windows, its dedicated fan base refuses to let go, leading to a steady market share of 3.7% (+0.01 point). The remaining Windows versions, 8.1, 8, and XP, have less than 1% market share.

Here is the ranking of Windows versions:

Windows 11

  • Windows 10 – 71.1% (+0.01 point)
  • Windows 11 – 23.68% (-0.25 point)
  • Windows 7 – 3.7% (+0.01 point)
  • Windows 8.1 – 0.7%
  • Windows 8 – 0.35%
